Our Story
The typical section that you will find on every website, the story behind the company and the brand, behind the product that you use.
Well, Eco Recasens SL has a slightly different story, not the usual one. We like to think that we are different, and that’s why we’ve been able to develop a different product, a special product.
We were born back in the long gone 1980’s, and I say a long time ago because I’m writing this in 2020 and when I realize it 40 years have gone by and it’s hard to believe. The Berlin Wall came down, and we kept going. The digital era has taken over, and we have grown with it. We’re even making it through a pandemic.
That’s how strong and experienced Eco Recasens is.
We are a family owned company, with firm values of tradition, effort, hard work and commitment, as well as a continuos search for innovation and products that can help our clients and especially the world.
Our Storyline
1985
Let’s take a quick leap back to 1985. Our founder, Mr. Recasens became back then a pioneer at a European level in the manufacturing and commercializing of flexible straws.
His life as a straw producer started, and he began selling them in Spain, mostly Barcelona and Catalunya.
2015
By 2015 Eco Recasens began looking for new roads to travel, new ways to innovate and differentiate ourselves from the rest, and hopefully improve the straw industry.
Fortunately, we made a good decision and we started making straws out of compostable materials, that would help preserve the environment. The idea was that due to the increased levels of pollution worldwide, a nd the negative impact that plastic straws had on nature, we needed to find an alternative, a solution to the problem, as to help preserve and clean our planet.
Since then, at Eco Recanses we have developed different types of straws, focusing on those that are environmentally friendly, made from compostable materials that don’t pollute the Earth.
We have two types of materials:
1- Made of PLA
2- Oxybiodegradable
Both are available in diameters of 6mm and 8mm, which are the industry standards.
2000
Twenty years later, as the 21st Century began, things started evolving. With technology and the digital era, things and information became accessible to almost everyone, and new ideas spread around the world.
As a result, straws became something different. they weren’t an instrument to drink or sip liquids anymore, they became an accessory for your drink or cocktail, an add-on, a new characteristic to sell a drink or beverage with.
That’s how and why Mr. Recasens took upon the task of developing machinery to personalize and customize straws. After sweat and hard work, he introduced to the market a great variety of colors, diameters, designs and styles of straws, even betting on black straws, which back then were uncommon.
Once again, Eco Recasens became a pioneer of the customization of straws, as it had the courage to try new styles and designs despite potential criticism.
2020
2020 has been a strange and difficult year for almost everyone, it’s been a year of thought and change for us humans. Reinventing ourselves has been a challenge, but I believe we’ve all come to realize that we either change our way of living and consuming, or we’ll be in trouble.
That’s why in 2020 we kept focusing on compostable straws and other items, as well as giving space to a new generation.
In 2020, Eco Recasens has given space to the second generation of the Recasens family, which now manages the company alongside new young, energetic and hungry talent. We have since expanded into new continents, with a presence in North, Central and South America.
The children of Mr. Recasens, which have been working for Eco Recasens for over 20 years, are now in charge, and have brought in new partners to help expand the company and have a powerful presence not only in Spain, but also in Costa Rica, Argentina and the rest of Europe.
As a result, we are being able to take our compostable and customizable straws to the rest of Europe and the world, helping clients have customized and amazing straws, as well as reducing pollution and helping the environment and humanity in the process.
